just a quiet night

Diedre and I were the only ones up tonight, everyone else was tired from all the battles. I was kinda tired too but I odn't think she noticed. I just sat in the thrown cuddled up with Diedre for a while and then Prudence came down and the three of us just sat and talked. Pru seemed sick and I hope she feels better.

I made a suggestion to have an arts fair this spring and maybe that'll be fun and I can sell some magical stuff. Mostly though we just took comfort in eachother and kept close, it was like being a part of a family again, something I havnt felt in too long, and it was really nice. Diedre sent us both off to bed after she caught Prudence yawning and that was the end of the night for me.

Masquerade fun

What a night! I got in contact with Sabe despite a lot of wards and told him that if he didn't work with me this time I was leaving him for spider bait. Carey stopped me on the way out and yelled at me trying to convince me to save the princesses but I was having none of it until Diedre apologized.

I went down through a differentpassage this time and used a modified passwall to make a shaft above the center of the city. We dropped down while my men above laid down a covering fire. I got Sabe up a rope and the princesses were there as well so they happened to come along. I did not rescue them or aid their escape in any way. They just happened to escape at the same time I was saving Sabe.

We were all back in time for a wonderful masquerade ball the queen threw. I went as a panther and soon found Siona, we had a few pouncing contests as she was in cat form too. In the end we tied and then Valkryn showed up. He was his typical elitist self, and then some of his friends got into a fight.

Alias seemed to be lesser in rank than Gia, and she's been nicer as well so I was rooting for her. Eventually Gia saw everyone wanted Alias to win and just stormed off. In the end the queen apologized so I'm back in her service, and I'm on good terms with Siona again too, and I rescued three people from certain death. I think I'm back to my old self!

Sick

My writing is a bit squiggly as I take this down. I've lost a lot of blood and I'm sick to my stomach over something related to that. Let me explain. Last night two of the princesses, as well as Sabe, were captured by the drow. Tool and Valkryn came around to accuse another of the princesses of plotting against thoe who had been taken and generally act all big and bad cuz they could pick on girls. I tried to get them to stop and help me to rescue the princesses, but no such luck.
Sabe was able to contact me and when he heard Juliette was taken he got free and decided to try to rescue her. On his own. In the middle of the drow city. Naturally I had to try to back him up but the queen had noone else to send with me. In the end only Rowena and Wraith came with me. The queen was going to come but then decided not to so I commandeered some guards and went in.

We were assailed by a squadron of drow much larger than us. They were on guard thanks to Sabe's escape attempt but we were able to defeat them. I was wounded and we suffered losses significant enough that we couldn't persue our goals any further and had to retreat. I could dealw ith that.

But when I returned, near to passing out from blood loss I found the greatest wound of all. I bowed to the queen wiht great effort and made a report, to which she said nothing. Only the king and Rowena showed much concern, but when I came to I was still on the floor in the hall and the queen was chatting idly with some gypsy.

Savar helped me to my feet and as soon as I was strong enough I cursed her and forsook her service before stalking off to my tower. I'm going to have to return to the underdark to save Sabe (if he's still alive) but the queen's family is no longer my concern.

Some might not understand why it matters so much. But when you're an adventurer for a living just a few words, maybe a kiss on the cheek or a place of honor, someone to tend to your wounds, is the best reward you can get. It's not as though I'm in the business for the money. Just about everyone I know is gone and the only way people will ever pay attention to me is for me to become a hero like I was before.

I've made my efforts and struggled, even though I'm mostly fighting alone now, and after last night's battle where I led Dragonshire's forces against the Drow and orcs, and now this... and just to have it all go unnoticed... I almost feel like I should have died back in Kielder with everyone else I knew.

Intrigue!

So then! The queen has a son, probably illegitimate, and to even write bout this is some kinda crime. Cool huh? And what's more is Valk is involved in some drow plot and Siona is trying to kill Sabe. I told Sabe what Siona was capable of -- what she did to that village when she turned into a dragonm, and told him to be careful. I was even thinking of using that to lure her into a trap and bind her magics or something so she couldnt hurt Sabe.

Diedre overheard it though and decided to try to have Siona charged with the massacre. I was cowardly and tried to talk her out of it because I didnt want trouble, and when Siona gets mad theres always trouble, but now I realize it really is the right thing to do. I'll just have to be on my guard. Carey and I are supposed to go summon the queen's son tomorrow and she's forcing me to get up early, so for now I'm going to sleep in the temporal plane where I can rest for a good ten hours before having to go home.

Back in the DSSH

I've been back around Dragonshire now that the queen's returned. She Tool and I now seem to be the main people in the kingdom and what's more is we all seem to get along a lot better. I've learned that a lot of her authoritarian attitude is just kind of a front, and she's really a pretty nice person.

So I'm staying back in Dragonshire now while we try return the kingdom to its former glory, and it seems like we have a pretty good shot.
